A Rail-Junction Town's Roofline
Tolono incorporated in 1865 around a 19th-century railroad junction, and its early housing -- built for a population largely employed by the rail lines -- established a roofline character shaped more by that junction-town economy than by farmland aesthetics. Much of that older roofing has been replaced multiple times since.
Storm Exposure on Open County Rooflines
Without significant tree cover shaping Tolono's original townsite, its rooflines face more direct exposure to central Illinois's severe-storm and long-track tornado risk than a canopy-shaded village like Mahomet. That open exposure is a useful factor in any Tolono roof inspection.
